Product Launch

Design /

In 2020 I was brought into a product launch for a migraine medication. I would be the artwork lead for this launch. I worked with the agency to help create the logo and look of the product, and once the concept was completed, the artwork components would be handed to me to complete the design. I had to make sure the artwork adhered to FDA standards as well as meeting our internal stakeholders requirements (marketing, legal, regulatory). Once the artwork was created it was my responsibility to obtain approvals and get the artwork out to vendors. The timeline for this was extremely tight as the company wanted the artwork out within 24 hours of us receiving approval.

There would be a number of roadblocks even as close to a week prior to FDA approval, but the product would launch on time. The product launch would be a success, and our team would receive the President’s Award for launch excellence, one of the highest honors the company can award. I was incredibly proud to have been a part of this project.

in 2019 I was the artwork lead for a product launch for a migraine medication. The artwork needed to be created and approved within a tight deadline. I would work with the agency to get the logo artwork ready, and once that was complete I would create all the components needed for the product, which would include multiple cartons, foils, and inserts. I’d have to coordinate with multiple sites and vendors as the product would launch out of multiple locations and would need different components for each site.

We would receive approval on Christmas eve and would work through the holiday to get the artwork out to vendors in time for a successful launch.

Product Packaging

Design /

In 2013, I began to work at a Pharmaceutical company designing the product packaging at the company. Their main focus was eye drops and contact lens solution.
I was tasked with creating the carton the product would be packaged in, as well as the labels that went on the bottles for the eye drops and contact lens solutions.
Some project had very little art direction from the customers, and I was able to get creative with the packaging. Other customers would provide very detailed style guides I had to adhere to, such as placement of company name, colors, invader bars, etc.
In addition to customer style guides, the company I worked for required me to follow their own masters regarding what needed to be on the packaging. Pharmaceutical companies are required by the FDA to have certain information on the packaging, and this information needed to be incorporated in all the artwork. A rigorous documentation and revision system was put in place to ensure the correct information was on the artwork, a process in which I was heavily involved in.
The carton and label layouts were done with in Illustrator, with any artistic work such as backgrounds or photo manipulation done in Photoshop.

Maternity Photoshoot

In the summer of 2013, a friend asked me to do something I have never done before: shoot her maternity photographs. By no means am I even remotely experienced with doing anything even remotely close to this, but I was more than happy to attempt this.
I was given 2 days notice before the photoshoot, and without Norikawa working alongside me this would not have happened. We did zero location scouting, and even less research regarding poses.
This project taught me the large amount of work that photographers have on their plate, and that the work they do is simply amazing.
These are but a handful of the photos we took. Many thanks to Rick and Monica (and James!) for trusting me to take these photos.
The photographs were run through Lightroom as well as Photoshop.

Early Work

Design /

Here is a sample of my earliest work. There is a lot of miscellaneous work here, from simple business cards and stationery to newsletters and brochures. All these projects I worked on during my tenure at Grand Graphics involved working with customers, matching their tastes and ensuring they were happy with the end result.
A lot of the work became print, using a four-color press, and some became digital work to distribute over the internet.
I learned a lot from working at Grand Graphics, from concept, layout, all the way to pre-press. I logged countless hours on Adobe programs as well as Quark.

Beginning in late 2010, I began to work for a manufacturing company, who produced many products – optical turnstiles, full height security gates, ticket scanners, queuing stanchions, etc. We (the marketing team) had recently updated the company logo. The company needed to update everything else to match its new look – the webpage, documents, videos, etc.
One of my first responsibilities was to update the look of the data sheets and descriptive specification sheets. The data sheets would be produced in both print as well as a .pdf for the sales department to distribute to potential leads.
Their data sheets were outdated and needed to be updated.
I worked with the Director of Marketing, Sales Manager and President to find what information was important, and created a layout that would work across all product lines.

Much of the old product photography was flat, with the product facing front. The products themselves have a lot of character, and I wanted to give the products some definition, and bring their different angles to life.
Photos were shot with either a Canon T2i, or my personal Olympus E-PL1. Minor spot work with Photoshop.

Case studies involved helping clients solve their problems with our products and telling the story of how we did so.
The process involved working with clients, interviewing them and requesting pictures from their projects.
The document was created in InDesign.

Collectible Toy Photography

Photography /

In late 2012 and early 2013, a friend and myself began a project that involved something both of us are very fond of: collectible toys. I began photographing the many toys we had in our collection.
At first I was using a very simple set up with natural light, a bed sheet, and plexi-glass. The photos had a lot of character, with the reflections bouncing off the plexi, as well as the natural lighting giving a warm hue, but the set up was rather crude. The first two photos are with this set up.
I soon went the way of a light tent, and some static day light bulbs. I had much more control over the look of how these photos came out.
